As-Sabeel Academy’s Jr. Beta Club had the opportunity to go to Greenville City Hall and meet Mayor Knox White on January 22nd. The students sat in City Council chambers as they listened to Mayor White explain how the city government is structured. Students were interested to learn that Mayor White, along with all the other City Council Members are only part-time city employees. Mayor White actually works as an immigration attorney in addition to his job as the Mayor.
Mayor White also told students about a major project that the city is currently working on. It’s a new park called Unity Park, which will run alongside the river on both sides of the Swamp Rabbit Trail. Construction on the new park is already underway.
Students also had the opportunity to ask questions of the mayor. It was a great learning experience and an opportunity for our young leaders to better understand what city governments do and how they work.
